Resident Dr. Keyuree Satam Selected for NHLBI-Funded Vascular Disease T32 Training Program

The Stanford Division of Vascular Surgery is pleased to announce that resident Dr. Keyuree Satam has been selected for the highly competitive Mechanisms and Innovation in Vascular Disease T32 Training Program.
As part of this prestigious National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-funded training program, Dr. Satam will join the Sayed Lab, where her research will focus on understanding the mechanisms underlying vascular diseases using human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based models.
The Mechanisms and Innovation in Vascular Disease T32 Training Program provides advanced research training, mentorship, and career development for exceptional early-career scientists dedicated to advancing the field of vascular biology. Through this fellowship, Dr. Satam will contribute to innovative research aimed at improving our understanding of vascular disease and developing new approaches to diagnosis and treatment.The research team will study the cardiovascular impact of burn pit exposure using advanced cardiovascular phenotyping, patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cardiac organoids, and preclinical models.
"This award will allow us to combine advanced cardiovascular imaging, patient-specific stem cell–derived heart tissue models, and multi-omic technologies to better understand how burn pit exposures contribute to cardiovascular disease in Veterans," said Dr. Sayed. "Our goal is to develop innovative human-relevant models that not only uncover disease mechanisms, but also accelerate the development of precision therapies for those affected by toxic environmental exposures."

I'm excited to learn how to develop and use patient-derived iPSC models to better understand Vascular Ehlers Danlos syndrome and other aortopathies, with the goal of ultimately translating these discoveries into potential treatments for patients."
Dr. Keyure Satam is a resident in her professional development year in the Division of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Nazish Sayed is a faculty member in the Division of Vascular Surgery and is affiliated with the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute. He also serves as Director of the Baszucki Vascular Surgery Biobank.
