INSIDE VESS 2025: Stanford Vascular Surgery Recap

The Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society (VESS) Annual Meeting was held in Breckenridge, CO this past weekend, February 6-9, 2025. There were several highlights from the Stanford Vascular Surgery team:

RESEARCH & PRESENTATIONS

Anita Zahiri, Brown medical student and Stanford Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) Scholar, presented a retrospective review, "The Two-Decade Experience of Onco-Vascular Reconstruction in Patients with Retroperitoneal Sarcoma," mentored by Dr. Elizabeth George and PD Resident Dr. Arash Fereydooni. This work builds on the long-standing collaboration between vascular surgery and surgical oncology, first established by Dr. E. John Harris and now led by Dr. George.

Dr. Fereydooni presented "Comparison of In-Person and Virtual Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Interviews from the Applicant Perspective," mentored by Residency Program Director Dr. Venita Chandra.

Dr. Sabina Sorondo, PD Resident and recipient of the 2024 VESS/Medtronic Research Award, presented an update on her research, "Leveraging Soluble Guanylate Cyclase Activators for Peripheral Arterial Disease," mentored by Drs. Nicholas Leeper, Derek Klarin, and Shaunak Adkar.

Division Chief and past VESS President Dr. Jason Lee was an invited presenter during the Case Report Session, sharing insights from a complex case.

LEADERSHIP & MENTORSHIP

Dr. Fereydooni served as a panelist for the VESS Next Generation Student Mentor Program, contributing to discussions on "Building a Mentor/Mentee Relationship" and "What Makes an Applicant Competitive?"

He also moderated the Boston Scientific Lunch Session on "Navigating the Future as a NextGen Leader in Vascular Health," which included Dr. Chandra as a panelist.
