Drs. Michael Sgroi and Elizabeth George Assume Leadership of Stanford Vascular Surgery Training Programs
October 29, 2025
The Division of Vascular Surgery announces new leadership of its training programs. Dr. Michael Sgroi has been appointed Program Director of the Stanford Vascular Surgery Residency and Fellowship Programs. Dr. Elizabeth George has been appointed Associate Program Director.
Dr. Sgroi succeeds Dr. Venita Chandra, who has served as Program Director since 2020.
“I am so honored to take over the role as program director for the division of vascular surgery. This has been a career goal of mine since finishing my fellowship here at Stanford, and I feel privileged to give back to the next generations of vascular surgeons. We will continue to prove that Stanford is one of the best training programs in the county, and purse our vision of the program by training the future leaders in academic surgery," says Dr. Sgroi.
Dr. Sgroi is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery and Section Chief at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Dr. George is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and vascular surgeon at Stanford.
Stanford’s vascular surgery training program was established in 1993 under founding Program Director Dr. Christopher Zarins. He was succeeded by Dr. Ron Dalman, followed by Dr. Jason Lee, and Dr. Venita Chandra.
